John and Sebastian Cabot

John and was born in Genoa, Italy in 1450. He is best known as an Italian English explorer of Newfoundland. His name at birth was Giovanni Cabato. He is historically important because his explorations were the basis for England’s early claims on North America. John Cabot became naturalized citizen in Venice in 1476, while working as a and trader in the eastern Mediterranean, in 1490 he was given permission by king Henry VII to seek a northern route to Asia across the Atlantic. In 1498 he and 300 crew members set out from Bristol in May of the year but were never heard from again, he died in 1498 because he disappeared. Cabot’s son, Sebastian, was a famous explorer and cartographer in his own right, and may have accompanied his father on the successful 1497 voyage. John’s voyage was just five years after the famous first voyage, in 1492, of Christopher Columbus.

Sailors were always around John and Sebastian Cabot, so it’s not surprising that they loved the sea. Christopher Columbus was a big influence to Cabot; he was the second euro pen to discover North America. John and Sebastian Cabot were English explorers of Newfoundland. John Cabot knew the world was much bigger then what Columbus claimed. People wanted to discover new parts of the world. So john and Sebastian Cabot were chosen to run voyages because John was an English explorer of Newfoundland and Sebastian was an accomplished map maker and navigator.

John Cabot ran 19 voyages. These voyages were tough. His consequences were that his men died on his journey. His men died from several things. Some of them were because of storms, and diseases, and starvation. So that’s why voyages were tough, Cabot was the only man left.

John and Sebastian Cabot ran the same voyage. They both sailed to north America. Although, Christopher Columbus was the first one to sail and discover north America. They thought they were going to find riches like Columbus but they only found North America. His voyage to Bristol was tough, and Cabot disappeared and died so he didn’t get to go back to his homeland.

Sebastian Cabot wanted to be a famous explorer like his father. He thought of doing the same thing like his father. It was discovered that John Cabot and Christopher Columbus had not found Asia but North America. People thought that these lands were as rich as Asia! So Sebastian told King Henry VII about his plan and he liked it. He accomplishes that plan which was to sail to Asia and he did. His voyage was bad because the mean threatened him to return home because they were uncomfortable about the voyage. But Sebastian didn’t find riches in Asia just like John Cabot and Christopher Columbus. All three John Cabot, Sabastian Cabot, and Christopher Columbus thought and did the same thing.
